Q1: I have co: mpleted my BS (16 years) degree. Can I apply for PhD admission as per revised HEC PhD Policy?
Ans. Yes, you can apply.

Q2: Is this new HEC PhD policy applicable to already enrolled students?
Ans. The revised HEC PhD policy is not applicable to already enrolled students. However, the University has the autonomy to apply some points of the revised PhD policy on already enrolled students.

Q3: I have recently completed 16 years education securing CGPA 2.96. Am I eligible to apply for PhD admission?
Ans.  No, you are not eligible. The minimum requirement for admission in PhD Program is having 16 years of schooling with CGPA 3.0/4.0 in semester system or 60% marks in an annual system.

Q4: Is it compulsory to Pass GRE (General) entrance test for getting admission in PhD Program?
Ans. Yes it is compulsory to qualify GRE General test for getting admission in PhD Program.

Q5: Is it compulsory to Pass Subject Based GRE entrance test for getting admission in PhD Program?
Ans. No you have to qualify GRE general (non-subject) test for admission in PhD Program.

Q6: I have qualified GRE (general) entry test in some other university with 60% score, am I eligible to apply and get admission in The University of Haripur with the same test?
Ans. Yes if you have qualified GRE general test from other university, you can use it for admission at University of Haripur provided test was conducted within last two year time.

Q7: I have completed my course work as M.Phil student. Am I eligible to get admission in PhD on the basis of my course work of M.Phil/MS?
Ans.  Yes, you are eligible to apply for PhD admission provided that your current standing CGPA in your course work is CGPA 3.0 or above. Also you have to qualify GRE type non-subject entry test with minimum 60% qualifying score, if not availed already.

Q8: I have completed my course work of M.Phil/MS; now I want to get admission in PhD program; would I get any exemption in course work of PhD program if admitted?
Ans. Yes you can get up to 24 Cr hr exemptions on already earned credits provided you have transcripts verified by respective department and controller of examinations. Further you might have to take deficiency courses (as Non Credit Hours).

Q9: I am doing MS/MPhil from another University and completed my course work, can I apply for admission in PhD in University of Haripur and would I get exemption in course work.
Ans. Yes you can get admission in University of Haripur, but only 50% of your earned Credit hours would be counted while you have to repeat rest of your earned 50% Cr. Hr. For example if you have earned 24 Cr. Hr in other university then on 12 Cr Hr would be counted. Research synopsis would not be considered. 

Q10: If I am not interested in completing my PhD degree, is there any exit option available to get M.Phil/MS degree without completing my PhD degree?
Ans. Yes, minimum 30 Cr. Hr. would be required to earn MS/MPhil degree, so there are three exit options available in new HEC PhD policy

  1. After completion of minimum 24. Cr. Hrs of Course work, a candidate can get MS degree (taught) with taking 6 Cr. Hrs of special problem/special assignment/review of literature etc.
  2. After completion of minimum 24. Cr. Hrs of Course work, a candidate can get M.Phil degree after completing of 10 Cr. Hrs research thesis.
  3. After completion of 48 Cr. Hrs. of Course work, a candidate can get MS degree (taught) without any research thesis/project.
Q11: What will be the fate of existing MPhil/MS degree after implementation of new HEC PhD policy?
Ans. Students, especially those who have CGPA less than 3, would be still able to apply for MPhil/MS Program.

Q12: I have completed my M.Phil/MS degree; now I want to get admission in PhD program; would I get any exemption in course work of PhD program if I get selected?
Ans. Yes if you have already completed your MS/MPhil with 30 credit hours including Thesis, you will have to complete 24 credit hours course work of PhD program (Relevant to your previous discipline) in which you intend to get admission. In other case you have to fulfill deficiency courses decided by your department’s Graduate committee. And have to conduct new research.

Q13: I have done BS in Forestry, can I take admission in PhD Botany?
Ans. Yes, you can but it is the sole discretion of departmental admission committee to award you admission in PhD Botany. Your prospective supervisor may help you in this regard. Keep in mind that you will have to study some deficiency courses as determined by the departmental admission committee.

Q14: Is there any residency requirement for PhD student in the revised PhD policy?
Ans. Yes, there is minimum two years residency requirement after entry into PhD with 16 years of schooling.

Q15: I am working in an organization and want to get admission in PhD program. I have already completed my M.Phil degree; can I complete my PhD degree as a part time student?
Ans. For employees who have completed MPhil degree, it is mandatory to get leave at least for one year in addition to NOC from his/her Organization to get admission in PhD program.

Q16: Is there any residency requirement for PhD in the revised PhD policy for already enrolled MPhil student who have completed his course work requirement?
Ans. Yes MPhil student who has completed his course work will have one year residency requirement.

Q17: Could you repeat that is the requirement of PhD admission for employed candidates?
Ans. An employed candidate has to provide No objection certificate (NOC)from his/her institute/organization and have to provide two years study leave (48 credit hours regular classes)within 3 months (before mid-term exam) otherwise his/her admission will stand cancelled.

Q18: What is duration of PhD according to revised PhD policy?
Ans.  Duration of PhD for candidates having 16 years schooling is 4 years. Duration of PhD for candidates having MPhil degree is 3 years (Minimum).

Q19: What will be the fee for enrolled MPhil student after entering into a PhD Program?
Ans. An already enrolled student in MPhil program will have to pay the fee of PhD program.

Q. 20. I have qualified GAT subject test with 60 marks. Am I eligible for PhD admission?
Ans. No, you have to appear for the GAT General (Non-subject) test conducted by NTS .The qualifying score for PhD admission should be 60.

Q.21. I have qualified GAT General Test conducted by NTS with 60 marks. Am I eligible for PhD admission?
Ans. Yes, you are eligible for PhD admission provided; the test was conducted within two year time you applied for the PhD admission.

Q.22. What is the maximum course work requirement for the PhD scholar who entered in the PhD program after completion of his/her MPhil?
Ans. The course work requirement for the scholar after completion of MPhil in the relevant discipline is minimum 24 credit hours excluding the seminars (Non-credit courses).

Q.23. What is the minimum residency requirement for PhD course work after 16 year schooling (BS 4 years)?
Ans. The minimum residency requirements for PhD course work completion are two years after 16 years schooling (BS- 4 year degree).

Q.24. What is the minimum residency requirement for PhD course work after 18 year schooling (MPhil 2 years)?
Ans. The minimum residency requirement for PhD course work completion after 18 years schooling (MPhil- 2 year degree) is one year (minimum).

Q.25. How the Merit of BS Programs is calculated?
Ans. 30% of SSC/Matric Percentage + 70% of HSSC/F.A/F.Sc Percentage
