Department of Environmental Sciences, UOH, KPK has celebrated Earth Day

Earth Day's 45th anniversary has been celebrated by the Department of Environmental Sciences (DES) University of Haripur in a joint venture with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the 22nd of April 2015 with the theme of ‘It’s our turn to lead’.

Great level of enthusiasm has been witnessed in both students as well as the faculty members of the University in the course of day long activities of presentations and models competition on diverse aspects of environment. The event was started with the recitation of few verses from Holy Quran by Noman Afzal of BS IV, DES. Mr. Salman Khan, Lecturer DES welcomed all the participants on behalf of HoD, DES and described the importance of the day in times most needed.

Mr. Shoaib, Training Officer of EPA briefed the audience regarding EPA’s current projects that was followed by detailed and interactive presentations on the ‘KP Environmental Protection Act 2014’ and ‘The Theme of the Earth Day’ by Mr. Sanaullah and Mr. Afsar Khan Deputy Directors EPA respectively. Organizers of the event and winners of the ‘Models Competition’ activity were awarded with certificates and shields by the honorable guests from EPA and Ms Naureen Aurangzeb Assistant Professor DES.

The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Zia ur Rahman, Lecturer DES who cordially acknowledged the efforts of faculty members; in particular of Mr. Ayaz, Miss Zainab and Dr. Alia Naz, students, distinguished guests from EPA, Judges for the Competition and members of Roots Society for making this event a success. He added that if humans are the cause of current day environmental problems then they should play their role for the solutions of these problems looking in to current day knowledge and technological advancement. We are optimist, and hope that DES will always welcome any organization in general and EPA in particular for arranging such programs.
