Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Ghaznavi, Advisor, Department of Geology, University of Haripur published a book titled (Coal the Energy Resource of Pakistan,  Characterization & Utilization with an Overview of Coal Resources of Pakistan)

Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Ghaznavi, Advisor, Department of Geology is author of the first book published by University of Haripur to this date. The book titled “Coal the Energy Resource of Pakistan,  Characterization & Utilization with an Overview of Coal Resources of Pakistan”  is University of Haripur first ever research book publication and includes university among those universities which have published a book by one of their faculty member.
Pakistan is a coal rich country having huge coal resources, seventh in the list of top twenty countries of the world, which can fulfill its energy requirements for a long time, but presently the share of coal in generating electricity is negligible. The power generation from coal, in countries having huge col resources is shown as under:
Mongolia = 98 % ; South Africa = 94 % ; Poland = 86 % ; PR China = 81 % ; India = 68 % ; USA = 43 %
With the current energy crisis, coal has to assume a vital and significant role if Pakistan wants to reduce dependence on the country’s useful but limited supply of natural gas and to reduce the burden on foreign exchange being spent on the import of oil.
This book will provide a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analytical look at coal resources of Pakistan in all provinces. This data would certainly give extensive information to the geological community and the experts in the energy sector for the proper exploitation and utilization of this indigenous non-renewable energy resource of Pakistan to help professionals and others who want to use coal for energy purpose.
This book is written with a broader scope in mind; to cater to the needs of coal professionals as well as academia: Teachers and Students. The objective is to provide teachers and students, as well as professionals, with a comprehensive knowledge base covering all aspects of coal. For teachers and especially students, lack of an information source in Pakistan, on coal resources, makes acquiring information a toilsome and laborious work. This book provides all information with reference to coal resources, from its formation, mining, quality, quantity, reserves, production, price, its commercial utilization as energy source and share in energy production of Pakistan as well as the world at a single location.

It may be said that all important and prevalent information about coal resources with reliable coal inventory data on all coal deposits of Pakistan have been put together in this analytical work.  This book will help not only the professionals but also aid the scholastics so it can pave the way for more research on coal and its utilization for the betterment of our country. This book may serve a sort of text book on coal for students. It will be useful for all kind of professionals and stake holders such as students, researchers, industry and coal mining developers. This book will be of great help for people interested to use coal for energy purposes.
