VARIETIES DEVELOPED FOR COMMERCIAL CULTIVATION

  1. Oilseed crops:
  1. Fakhari-e-Swat-2004, A new high yield, bold seeded groundnut variety for cultivation in NWFP in general and Malakand Division in particular. Approved by Provisional Seed Council, on August 30th, 2004.
  2. Swat Phali-96 (SP-96), It is a bunch type peanut variety approved by Provisional Seed Council, on December 8, 1996 for general cultivation in Malakand Division. It is a high yielding variety and contains comparatively high proportion of oil and protein.
  3. Malakand 96, A new soybean variety for cultivation in Malakand Division approved by Provisional Seed Council, on December 8, 1996. It is tolerant to the prevailing diseases (root rot, bacterial blight and mainly to virus) and insects compared to Kharif 93 (Bragg). Malakand-96 is 7-10 days earlier in maturity to Kharif 93. It is recommended for cultivation at high altitudes, irrigated lands as well as intercropping in the orchard.
  4. RAHIM SUNFLOWER-96 (RS-96), It is a new sunflower hybrid developed at the station and approved by the Provincial Seed Council on December 8, 1996. It is recommended for general cultivation through out NWFP. It is a high yielding hybrid with good oil recovery.
  5. Malakand 91, A new soybean variety for cultivation in Malakand Division approved in Variety Evaluation Committee Meeting, December 2, 1991. It is a late maturing variety and suitable for cultivation at high altitudes, irrigated lands as well as intercropping in the orchard.
  6. Pak China-89, It is a Brassica napus L. type variety with the highest yield potential, but it is double high (i.e., has high contents of glucosinolate and Euracic acid). It is suitable for cultivation in Malakand Division, approved in variety Evaluation Committee Meeting, March 26, 1989.

ii. Pulses Crops:

  1. Malakand Kulat-I:  A high yielding, short season maturing and erect type cowpea variety for commercial cultivation. Approved by Provisional Seed Council, on August 30th, 2004.
  2. Malakand Kulat-II: A high yielding, full season maturing and vine type cowpea variety for commercial cultivation. Approved by Provisional Seed Council, on August 30th, 2004.
  3. Swat Mung –I:A high yielding, early maturing and bold seed Mung bean variety for commercial cultivation. Approved by Provisional Seed Council, on August 30th, 2004.
