  1. Variety Development

 

Developed and registered as Principal Breeder, two varieties of Almond

 

namely Karishma and Lajawab  through Provincial Seed Council in 2000 .

 

B.     Research and Development:

 

Conducted research and development work on various problems faced by the farming community related to food security, integrated development, sustainable development, livelihood, income generation etc:

 

1.Carried out impact study of Battakundi Farm through sustainable use of natural resources on poverty alleviation in the upper Kaghan valley of Hazara.

2.Introduced off season vegetables in the high hills of Hazara.

3.Carried out impact study of growing off season vegetables in High hills of Hazara on the farmers’ economy.

4.Carried out Zonning of Hazara division for various Horticultural crops.

5.Developed of a detailed cropping pattern for Battakundi area wherein crop rotation for disease management, erosion control, crop productivity etc were all chalked out.

6.Introduced and developed the production technology for True Potato Seed (TPS). TPS technology is the most innovative, economical, efficient and flexible one in the Potato cultivation.

7.Created  Module for training Female organizations of Siran and Kaghan valley of Mansehra in Kitchen gardening.

8.Developed a comprehensive project for uplift of Horticulture in Namli Mera village (Galliat).

9.Organized seed potato growers of Battakundi to form Seed Growers’ Association.

10.Conducted Farmers’ Field School on Integrated Crop Management of Potato.

11.Prepared reports for CNFA I-LED (USAID) on “Potato cultivation in Hazara; prospects and constraints” and “Some important fruit crops of Hazara; culture, problem areas and suggestions”.

12.Evaluated and screened 15 pea lines for disease resistance and other agronomic traits. Out of these 03 lines were evaluated to be high yielding and resistant against powdery mildew. The case of there registration is under process with the Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department (FSC&RD).

13.Developed 02 potato lines which are not only high yielding as compared to the existing commercial varieties like Desiree and Cardinal but also resistant against the most dreadful fungal disease of potato; late blight. The registration is under process with the FSC&RD.

14.Evaluated strawberry varieties and recommended variety “Chandler” for off season cultivation under plastic green house.

15.Work on development of onion lines resistant against “purple blotch” and tomato lines which are high yielding, early maturing and have higher shelf life.

16.Developed Zarai calendar for district Abbottabad.

  • Compost making practical training module for Barani Area Development Project (April 2006).
  • Compiled literature in Urdu on cultivation of onion, potatoes, seed potatoes, off season peas, off season French beans, apple, litchi, crop rotation, fruit drop and its control, orchard planning and lay out etc.
  • Helped in compilation of vegetable and fruit calendars for Abbottabad region wherein all the relevant activities of fruits and vegetables to be carried out in each calendar month were summarized in a comprehensive and understandable manner on a single chart for the farmers.                                               

    1.      Policy and Institution Building

     

  • Played instrumental role in formulation of “Azam Khan (ex-chief Secretary KPK) report on restructuring of Agricultural Research System in KPK.
  • Conceptualized and developed a PC-I on “Establishment of Germplasm Units for Horticulture in Hazara Division” which was duly approved by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under ASPL-II program and is being successfully implemented.
  • Development of Yearly Plant of Operations and the Annual Research Program for the Research Stations where I have been working.
  • Conducted a wide range of capacity building trainings for various stake holders in green sector on different issues.
